Interrupting another person isn’t always a bad thing. However, it may indicate a style of communication which can discourage you from telling your doctor all relevant symptoms. It can also be a way that your doctor shows she or he is listening - like trying to finish your sentences. Try to identify the difference and be aware of how often your doctor interrupts and clearly cuts you off versus when he or she is being attentive to you. If you feel as though he or she does it too often, try saying something such as, "Doctor, sometimes when you interrupt me like you just did, it makes me feel like what I say isn’t that important to you." This can be hard to say the first time, but try it. Who knows, you might get your physician’s attention.
