Probe incorporates a guided learning strategy to introduce students to the key ideas and concepts of McLuhan and the 'Toronto School' of communication. Students are directed, via hypertext, through four self-contained concept modules:

Time and Space
The central objective of this module is to encourage students to think about the transformations in the experience and use of time and space resulting from changing communications media.

Culture and Technology
This module encourages students to consider the relationship between culture and technology under the influence of communications media.

Figure and Ground
The central objective of this module is to demonstrate to students how McLuhan explores media as active environments rather than passive systems of delivery.

Convergence
This module demonstrates to students how McLuhan's ideas are relevant to the digital revolution.

Each of these modules consists of an original narrative supplemented and illustrated by textual and multimedia excerpts from McLuhan and others.
