Michael,

You might find the following reports of how people in group relations
conferences saw themselves as participants and learners - the styles of
learning from experience of interest and relevance:

Lipgar, R.M., Bair, J.P.,& Fichtner,C. Integrating research with conference
learning: 10 years of Q-methodology studies exploring experiential learning
in the Tavistock tradition, Operant Subjectivity, Oct. 2000, 24 (1), 1-23.

Lipgar, R.M, Bair, J.P. & Fichtner, C. (2004) Integrating research with
Group Relations conferences: challenges, insights, and implications. in
(eds.) Cytrynbaum, S. & Noumair, D.A.,Group Dynamics, Organizational
Irrationality, and Social Complexity: Group Relations Reader 3. Jupiter, FL:
A.K. Rice Insitute for the Study of Social Systems. cf. pp.433-437. ISBN
0-9760899-0-4

Although these are studies not of students in classroom settings, they are
studies about how people feel as learners and participants in educational
events.

Best wishes,
Bob L.
