I use both MI and Trans Theoretical model in my clinical work. In this stud=
y my P set consisted of clients in all four phases of a Court mandated prog=
ram and asked them to describe their experience in the sessions. The Q set =
was drawn from a concourse generated from focus groups of clients and couns=
elors and statements heard in group and individual sessions. The theory beh=
ind the final Q set was Edward Spranger's motivational styles from his book=
"Types of Men". MI enters into the discussion because when these motivatio=
nal styles are identified it allows the clinician to meet the client where =
they are and support engagement. The 3 factors described 1) clients who are=
traditionally motivated seeking education and knowledge about themselves a=
nd their problems, 2) Autonomously motivated individuals who want to active=
ly mentor, lead and complete tasks to support new ways of thinking and beha=
ving and 3) Socially motivated clients who see recovery based in new relati=
onships. Understanding a clients motivational style could lead to therapeut=
ic decisions regarding interventions or exercises to capitalize on that eng=
agement style. I am working on the revised manuscript this summer and if i=
nterested I can send a copy off list.=20

e
Trans-Theoretical Model of change, cos if so I'd be really interested to re=
ad
it. How might I get a copy?
