Subject:       Call for Papers

Organisers of IC-2000, the web conference on "International 
Communication in 2000 and After" are currently selecting papers for 
posting between 14 April and 31 July 1999 on the conference web pages.

Proposals for papers in the form of 400 word abstracts are invited 
from scholars, doctoral candidates and other senior research 
students and media practioners.  The deadline for abstracts is 30 
November.

Supervisors are requested to encourage students to produce papers based 
on relevant theses in preparation.

The following sub-themes have been identified:


1. Technological Determinism: Dealing with threats & opportunities. 

2. Electronic communities (?)  & "Local" and "Global" cultures;

3. The role of international communication actors in promotion of:
				- environmental protection;
			              - peace; 
				- human rights;
				- international development;
				- economic rationality/cultural diversity.

4. The future of cultural identity in the "globalizing" world;

5.  Feminism perspectives on international Communication;

6. Neo-imperialism through the cultural industries;

7. Can science fiction & futurology make contributions to the field of 
international communication;

8. The new diplomacy;

9. Privatized violence as international communication in world politics.
