Welcome to the Communication Institute for Online Scholarship's WWW interface to Comserve services. Winner of the "Prize for Excellence in Information Services" from the International Communication Association's Council of Communication Libraries, CIOS online services provide access to thousands of files in the resource library as well as dozens of scholarly conferences enrolling over 4,000 professionals and students. Also available is the online journals index database indexing more than 36,500 bibliographic references from 78 communication journals and an electronic white pages for more than 5,000 professionals and students in the communications field. The ComAbstracts database provides full text search and retrieval of 12,000 of abstracts from articles appearing in the professional literature and the new ComWeb MegaSearch system is an index to more than 20,000 communication related web pages at 230 communication web sites. The CIOS also provides access to the Electronic Journal of Communication, a full text, peer reviewed quarterly journal of original scholarship in communication -- one of the first five electronic academic journals ever created. In addition, the CIOS provides electronic services for several other important communication societies and provides access to back issues of the International Journal of Listening and the Journal of Communication and Religion.
The latest information and announcements from the CIOS are circulated in an e-mail distributed newsletter named Intercom. We recommend you read Intercom regularly to keep abreast of changes and additions to CIOS services. Consult the Intercom archives for recent issues or go to the daily news summary to read the most recent issue. As well, we strongly encourage you to consider signing up to receive the Intercom newletter through email. To do so, send an email message to Comserve@cios.org with the following text in the body of the mail by itself:
Access to some CIOS services is reserved for members of the CIOS and for those accessing Comserve services from institutions that support the CIOS through the CIOS institutional affiliates program (Click here for a list of CIOS affiliate institutions). Please consider joining the CIOS as an individual and recommending membership for your organization, university, or college. If you're an advanced student or researcher in areas of study related to human communication, (e.g., mass media, speech, rhetoric, journalism, communication studies, etc.), you'll find CIOS membership an excellent value.
