Anton, Corey Agency and efficacy in interpersonal communication: Particularity as once-occurrence and noninterchangeability. 164-183

Interpersonal communication is sometimes defined quantitatively (i.e., discourse between 2 and 4 interactants), though it may be defined qualitatively: Unlike mass-mediated communication, which is characterized by interactant anonymity and interchangeability, interpersonal communication hinges on the once-occurrence and noninterchangeability--the existential particularity--of interactants and interaction

Smith, Andrew R. Violence and the arts of resistance: An expedition in critical communicology. 184-210

In this article, the author reviews conceptions of symbolic violence, especially that developed by Pierre Bourdieu, and argues that there are dimensions of the symbolic that are left unaccounted for by the idea that such violence is 'gentle,' 'quiet,' and 'mitigated.' Group forms of communication under authoritarian and semiauthoritarian conditions of existence are drawn upon to show how traces of physical violence are lived and how forms of symbolic violence are conscious experiences for perpetrators and victims

Klyukanov, Igor E. A communicology of culture: Handle with care. 211-225

This article presents a human(istic) view of the (inter)cultural level of communication that overcomes such limitations of the traditional social scientific approach as essentializing and reifying culture that do insufficient justice to (inter)subjective agency
