Visual Communication Concept Explorer
Theory: The specification of a network of conceptual relationships.

The Visual Communication Concept Explorer (VCCE) is a visual interface to all the CIOS's primary research databases. It helps you to identify the communication field's most important concepts and ideas shows how they interrelate. The VCCE can show which communication scholars have contributed most to our knowledge about a concept and with whom these scholars have tended to work. It also displays historical information showing which concepts have been studied recently and which have the longest traditions of interest in the field.

The VCCE can run in your browser if you have a recent version of the Java browser plugin or you can download the VCCE, install it on your computer, and run it right from your desktop. If you want to run it in your browser and you don't have the Java plugin already installed, click the Java button below to get the plugin. Or click the launch button to start the visual communication concept explorer immediately. If it turns out you need the plugin because you don't have it already, the plugin will download automatically in most standard browsers (please note that in some versions of the Windows operating system you may need to reboot the computer after the plugin is installed.)

The VCCE is an interactive program that you control with your mouse. After it launches, click the "Help" menu to quickly learn how to use the VCCE.
